Are you a specialist trainee in surgery, medical or clinical oncology and are willing to help recruit to the Add-Aspirin cancer trial?

How to get involved

• Check that your hospital is participating in the Add-Aspirin trial and that your consultant is happy for you to be involved. List of participating hospitals 
• Ensure your GCP training is up to date
• Liaise with the research nurse at your hospital and get added to the delegation log for the trial
• Email us (quoting “Trainee recruitment scheme”) to receive full details and advice/resources for  screening and recruiting participants: mrcctu.add-aspirin@ucl.ac.uk
• Check the website for recruitment tips and liaise with the research nurses at MDTs and clinics
• Help to recruit at least 2 patients from any of the disease-specific cohorts during a 6-month attachment
• Email us the patient trial IDs to receive your certificate

Which patients are eligible?

The trial is assessing whether regular aspirin use can prevent recurrence and improve survival in patients with Gastro-oesophageal , Breast, Prostate or Colorectal cancer after being treated with curative intent.

Cohort Eligible Tumour Types Treatment
Gastro-oesophageal: Adenocarcinoma or squamous

Radical chemoradiation or

Surgery +/- neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemotherapy
Colorectal: Adenocarcinoma stage II/III Surgery +/- neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemotherapy
Breast: Invasive breast cancer Surgery  +/- neoadjuvant/adjuvant chemotherapy or adjuvant radiotherapy
Prostate: Node negative, non-metastatic adenocarcinoma (T1-3a) Prostatectomy +/- adjuvant radiotherapy
or + salvage radiotherapy or radical radiotherapy

Patients are excluded if they are already taking aspirin/anticoagulants. Please see full details of eligibility criteria here, and in the trial protocol.
